Accident at Bronx intersection raises concerns

A woman was sent to the hospital Wednesday night after being struck by a car at the intersection of White Plains Road and Archer Street, which has become notorious in the neighborhood.

Witnesses say the woman was crossing the street when a Mercedes making a left turn from Archer Street struck and dragged her several feet. The victim was taken to Lutheran Medical Center.

Neighbors say it takes only 27 seconds for the light at the intersection to change, forcing drivers to speed.

According to the Department of Transportation, from 1995 to 2005, there have been 14 accidents at the intersection involving pedestrians, including one fatality.
