East Tremont shoppers seek bill to curb parking problems at strip malls
Bronx residents who shop at East Tremont strip malls are calling for legislation to prevent their vehicles from being towed.
Shoppers say that fights between property owners and tenants at strip malls with shared driveways have led some stores to call a tow truck whenever they think people are going from strip mall to strip mall.
Assemblyman Michael Benedetto says small businesses are the backbone of the economy and have enough trouble without creating problems of their own.
He says when adjoining strip malls share common walkways and driveways, it's not the public's responsibility to understand the property ownership issue.
Benedetto says that he plans to introduce legislation in Albany that would curb towing rules.
