Ex-BX EMS worker: Boots caused end of career

A former Bronx EMS worker is undergoing physical therapy after he says a pair of boots he was required to wear on the job caused him to fall and injure himself.

Keith Rock says his 22-year career as an EMS worker may be over. According to Rock, a pair of clunky boots he was required to wear for a two-year trial in 2006 caused him to fall on a narrow stairway, rupturing tendons in both legs.

An FDNY representative says there was nothing in Rock's injury report that says the boots contributed to his fall. Last month, however, the FDNY and EMT union agreed workers could wear other footwear until an alternative to the heavy boots was found.
