The fire at 785 Pelham Parkway engulfed a fourth-floor apartment at about 2:15 p.m., fire officials say. The blaze was so intense one man jumped from the apartment and was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in serious condition.

The children and six other adults were also taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment.
