Bernard Kerik set to be sentenced for lying
(AP) - Former New York City policeCommissioner Bernard Kerik likely is going back behindbars. The 54-year-old Kerik was hailed as a hero alongside formerMayor Rudy Giuliani after the Sept. 11 terrorattacks. But he pleaded guilty in November to eight felonies,including lying to the White House when he was nominated to leadthe Department of Homeland Security. A federal judge let Kerik go free on bond but told him a prisonterm was "a mortal lock." Sentencing is scheduled for thismorning. The prosecution and defense agree that under federal guidelinesKerik's sentence should be between 27 and 33 months in prison. Before pleading guilty, Kerik spent three weeks in jail forreleasing secret pretrial information. He spent 10 days in apsychiatric ward for observation because of stress.
