Wintry weather coats the Bronx overnight

A slow-moving winter snowstorm is making its way through the Bronx and the rest of the city.

A winter storm warning is in effect for all five boroughs until 6 a.m. Saturday.

News 12 The Bronx meteorologist Stacey-Ann Gooden says the heaviest snow will fall overnight. As much as 9 inches of snow is expected to be on the ground by Friday morning.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said 365 salt trucks will spread 170,000 tons of salt across local roadways. Nearly 2,200 sanitation workers will be on duty during the snowstorm.

However, the mayor says schools will remain open Friday.
