Paterson suspends aide on domestic abuse claim

Gov. David Paterson has suspended a long-time aide after a New York Times story claimed he was involved in a case of domestic violence.

According to the article, state police may have pressured David Johnson's the former girlfriend to drop a criminal case against 37-year-old Johnson after she appeared in court to testify against him.

The domestic abuse complaint stems from a confrontation that happened last Halloween between Johnson and the woman, who told police her boyfriend choked her and tried to rip her costume off her body.

A domestic violence report was issued, but no criminal charges were brought against Johnson.

Associated Press reports have contributed to this article.
