MTA holds hearing on proposed cuts

A public hearing on proposed cuts to Metropolitan Transportation Authority services was held Wednesday evening in the Bronx.

The agency plans to phase out student MetroCards, eliminate some subway lines and scale back more than 50 bus routes. It has also announced plans to lay off approximately 1,000 workers by summer.

The MTA says the cuts are necessary to close its $750 million deficit. The hearings are a forum for residents to express their views on the cuts before the agency makes its final vote.
