Parents take stand against violence in Crotona

Dozens of concerned parents and community members gathered Saturday to discuss curbing violence in Crotona.

The meeting was organized after children at the Mary Mitchell Youth Center watched in horror as a 19-year-old was gunned down outside the playground four months ago. Residents say they need to stop the violence that plagues their community.

Parents say the accused gunman was once part of a basketball program at the center before the program was eliminated. They plan to take their concerns to the Board of Education in hopes of creating more programs to keep kids off the streets.
