Local leaders: Let's talk about student MetroCards

Local leaders are holding a public forum Friday asking residents to voice their opinions on the proposed elimination of student MetroCards.

City leaders are asking students and parents to come to City Hall at 1:00 p.m. to talk about their concerns. Representatives from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will also be present.

The MTA has proposed cutting free MetroCards for students to help the agency plug an $800 million budget gap.

Thousands of straphangers voiced their opinions at MTA hearings held over the last several weeks. Many asked the MTA to find alternative ways of funding.
