No longer a buzzkill: Bee ban lifted
In a unanimous vote Tuesday, the Department of Health lifted New York City's ban on beekeeping.
In the original health code, all bees were banned and considered dangerous because of their ability to sting. However, after researching urban beekeeping, the department says honeybees do not pose a threat to public health.
The Department of Health says the new law will go into effect 30 days after it is published in the city public record, which may happen next week.
