State lawmakers present budget amid shortfall
New York State legislators presented a budget Monday that would cut education and health care funding to help close a $9.2 billion shortfall.
The state Senate's resolution, which has been presented to Gov. David Paterson, calls for cuts in areas the governor has proposed but would be carried out differently.
The Senate also rejected $1.1 billion of the governor's proposed cuts, including slashing certain property taxpayer rebates, such as STAR.
The deadline to pass the 2010-2011 fiscal budget is April 1.
