NYPD officer shot in the Bronx

A New York City police officer was shot atleast twice Monday while responding to a call inside a Bronx apartment.

Officer Robert Salerno, 21, was in stable but serious condition. His bullet-resistant vest stopped at least one bullet, but hewas hit twice more in the abdomen.

The suspected gunman, Santiago Urena, was found dead inside theapartment at 3073 Park Ave. A home health careaide had called 911 to say her client's son had a gun.

It's not clear if Urena was dead from police bullets or aself-inflicted wound.
