Bronx trade school slated for closure
Citing poor graduation rates, the Department of Education is deciding Tuesday whether to close Alfred E. Smith High School.
Many parents and students have been speaking out against closing the 78-year-old trade school. The school's alumni say they would like to hire future graduates of Alfred E. Smith High School as trade workers.
The DOE is planning to shut down the plumbing, electrical and construction departments of the school. The mechanical department, being the only one if its kind in the Bronx, will remain open.
