MTA approves cuts to bus, subway servicePosted: Updated:
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority board voted Wednesday to approve a series of cuts that will eliminate the "W" subway line and dozens of bus routes.
The service reductions will save the agency $93 million a year as it tries to dig out of a more than $400 million budget hole.
In the Bronx, off-peak and Saturday service of the Bx20 bus will be discontinued, along with Bx34 service. The MTA says at least nine other bus lines in the Bronx could be altered.
In Brooklyn, the B37 bus will be eliminated, to the dismay of more than 1,000 business owners whose shops along Third Avenue in Bay Ridge are frequented by commuters.
