Mayor: Return census forms for city's benefit

Mayor Michael Bloomberg spoke in the Bronx and Brooklyn Wednesday, urging residents to complete their 2010 census forms and return them by April 15.

According to the mayor, the Bronx has only a 2 percent return rate of the census forms, and Brooklyn a 6 percent rate.

"Each year, some $25 billion in federal funds come to New York City based on our census numbers," Bloomberg said. Filling out the census can help the government determine the areas that most need federal money.

Bloomberg assured any immigrants living in the boroughs that filling out the census will not impact their statuses or release their personal information.
