New research has found that as women age, an hour of exercise is needed daily to maintain a normal weight.
In the study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers tracked more than 34,000 healthy women whose average age is 54. The study recommends that women in this age group now need 60 minutes of exercise daily, more than the 2.5 hours a week that had previously been recommended.
The study did not address how much exercise is needed for younger women.
