MTA: 'Fare beating' costs honest riders more money

The MTA says honest commuters are being forced to pay more due to ?fare beating.? The MTA says Bronx residents alone took 19 million free rides last year.

According to the MTA, an average fare costs about $1.48. When multiplied by the 19 million free rides Bronx residents took last year, the MTA says it amounts to $27 million in lost revenue for last year.

Bronx residents say they understand ?fare beating? contributed to the fare hikes, but they don?t feel they should be forced to pay more because of it.
