Ecologists find rare fish in Bronx River

An environmental group says the discovery of a rare fish in the Bronx River is evidence that cleaner waters are giving new species a chance to subsist.

The Bronx River Alliance says it found an alewife herring over the weekend in the once-polluted waters flowing through River Park at 180th Street and Boston Road.

Ecologists say they plan to build a fish ladder that will allow the herring to swim upstream and mate.
