Kids locked out of school yards in the Bronx

Many school yards, including the one at Bronx Green Middle School, are closed due to repairs or construction issues.

The renovations fall under the PlanNYC Program. The program works toward turning 256 school yards across the city into open playgrounds.

Parents say the changes are taking longer than expected. They say the yards are still closed during off-school hours, and some Bronx children try to sneak in.

The department of education states the closures are temporary, and the playgrounds are set to reopen once the work is complete. According to the parks department website, all of the schools should be transformed and ready by 2012.
