Obama campaigning for new finance rules in NYC speech

(AP) - President Barack Obama is heading to New YorkCity later this week. He'll push for a financial overhaul packagein a venue rich with presidential history.

The speech will be Thursday at Cooper Union in Manhattan. Itcomes as a Senate showdown looms on a package of new regulationsthat Republicans have so far unanimously opposed.

It's been nearly two years since the financial market meltdown.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs says Obama wants to"remind Americans what is at stake" if the rules of the road onWall Street remain unchanged.
