Building disrepair angers tenants, officials

Local residents and city lawmakers are demanding banks take responsibility for fixing hundreds of Bronx buildings that are in foreclosure and have fallen into disrepair.

Tenants and officials rallied today outside 3018 Heath Ave., which is owned by Milbank Real Estate in California. Officials say Milbank went into foreclosure last year when it defaulted on a $35 million mortgage, leaving the building with more than 900 open violations.

A motion filed in Bronx Supreme Court today seeks to force banks to fix and maintain the broken-down properties. A hearing is expected to take place within a month.
