NYPD using TSA experts for subway searches
(AP) - The NYPD is using a dozen explosives expertsfrom the city's airports to assist in random bag searches in thesubway.
The NYPD says the eight workers and four supervisors have workeddoing passenger security sweeps at area airports for theTransportation Security Administration.
The program started yesterday. The TSA members will work withpolice at stations around the city where bags are randomlyscreened. Police conduct stops at random times in stations aroundthe city. Straphangers are repeatedly reminded that all bags aresubject to search.
The TSA said on its website the two groups work togethercontinuously to strengthen overall security efforts.
