Group holds soda buyback event in BX

Health advocates are holding a soda buyback program in the Bronx today to encourage people to make healthier food choices.

Residents can trade in cans of soda at Richard Green Middle School for vouchers for healthier food options like fruits and vegetables.

The Alliance for a Healthier New York says more than 60 percent of adults in the Bronx are overweight or obese.

The group hopes the program will raise awareness about the high rates of obesity and rally support behind a proposed tax on sugary drinks.
