MTA plans layoff of more than 550 workers

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is planning to lay off more than 550 bus drivers and subway workers, according to The New York Times

The Times says the layoffs will coincide with the elimination of several bus lines and subway routes. The MTA has already announced a layoff of 500 station agents.

The agency says the cuts are needed to close its $800 million shortfall.
