Parkchester residents demand heavier police presence
The Muslim and Bangladeshi communities of Parkchester are demanding heavier police presence in their community after they say they have been victims of multiple bias attacks.
During a press conference yesterday, Mohammed Matin said five Bengalis, including his own family, have either been robbed, beaten or have had their property vandalized within the last six months.
Matin says that after one of the attacks, a family member had to be hospitalized. The community believes that the police department isn't doing enough to protect them.
An NYPD spokesperson says they believe the attacks are not hate crimes but actually a dispute between two families in the neighborhood.
