Defense says client wasn't part of hate crime
Defense attorneys for a Brooklyn man accused in a fatal hate crime say their client did not take part in any attack.
Hakim Scott is facing charges of murder and assault as hate crimes for allegedly striking Jose Sucuzhanay, an Ecuadorian immigrant, over the head with a bottle in 2008. Prosecutors say Scott and another man, Keith Phoenix, attacked Sucuzhanay because they thought he was gay.
Scott's lawyers deny their client joined Phoenix in attacking Sucuzhanay.
