Park Ave. building in danger of collapse

The fire department rushed to a Melrose apartment building this afternoon following reports of a shaky chimney.

Officials were forced to evacuate floors one through five of the building and a nearby church as well. More than three hours were spent securing the chimney of the 29-story building by fire and police officials.

A firefighter on the scene tells News 12 that the chimney could be seen swaying up to 3 feet at one point in time. The chimney was separated from floors 13 through 17 and 21 through 29 as well.
