Stop-and-frisk flyers handed out in Mott Haven

Community activists in Mott Haven are handing out flyers educating residents about the NYPD's stop-and-frisk practices.

According to the NYPD's statistics, a record number of New Yorkers were questioned last year, 87 percent of them black or Hispanic.

Mott Haven Houses Tenants Association President John Johnson says he and other leaders aren't calling for an end to the NYPD policy, but they want officers to be more respectful.

"We appreciate the presence of the officers," he says. "But we don't want to be victims."

Johnson has joined a New York City Housing Authority task force aimed at teaching both officers and residents to be more respectful toward each other during stops.
