Mayor supports NYC plans for same-sex ceremonies

(AP) - Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he supports CityClerk Michael McSweeney's new plan to offer ceremonies to same-sexcouples seeking domestic partnerships.

Couples who get married at City Hall or the city clerk's officesin the five boroughs are offered ceremonies. Bloomberg said there'sno reason same-sex couples shouldn't be offered the same thing.

The change takes effect June 3.

Same sex couples are not allowed to marry in New York. But theymay register as domestic partners and receive some of the samebenefits given married couples.

Bloomberg has long supported same-sex marriage.
