Williamsbridge community saddened for homeland amid violence
Dozens of civilians have died in Jamaica as the fierce fighting between police and gunmen who are protecting an alleged gang leader continues.
As the headlines come in and the death toll rises in the Kingston area, the Jamaican community in Williamsbridge feels saddened for its homeland.
In the many Jamaican restaurants and shops, it's the main topic of conversation. Shirley, who lives in Jamaica, says those caught in the crossfire are her biggest concern. At a Jamaican courier office, Howard Hilton says canceled flights have made it difficult to ship packages to the island.
The community fears that the violence happening in some parts of the country will affect Jamaica economically and tourism will suffer a backlash.
