Late for work? MTA makes it easier to blame trains

(AP) - Late for work? The agency that runs New York'ssubway system is making it easier for tardy straphangers to blameit on train delays.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is now offering delayverification reports on the Web, complete with excuse notes thatriders can show to disgruntled employers.

All straphangers have to do is enter a subway station, the timeof their trip, any transfer information, their name and e-mailaddress, and they'll get the information automatically.

The MTA unveiled the improvement Friday.

Previously people had to write the agency to get writtenverification about late trains.

About 37,000 riders wrote away for an excuse letter last year.
