Bronx filmmaker shows off work at International Film Festival

Short filmmakers will be showing off their work this week at the Bronx International Film Festival at Lehman College.

Filmmaker Erik Spink hopes to send a message through his new film, ?The Scavenger.? Joseph Garofalo, founder of the Bronx Veteran Museum, stars in the movie, which chronicles his struggles while looking for a home for the war artifacts he possesses. Newspaper clips, war shoes and model airplanes are just some of the pieces he owns, although many establishments in the Bronx turned down his requests to display them.

Spink empathized with Garofalo given their families? military backgrounds. The John Dormy and Sons Funeral Home currently houses more than 200 relics, but Spink hopes his film will remind viewers of the importance of history.
