Police: Case of road rage puts officer in hospital, 4 arrested

Police say an off-duty Bridges and Tunnels officer was assaulted by four men off the ramp of the Major Deegan Expressway and West 161st Street.

Police say it may have been a case of road rage. Officer Edward Aiken, 38, was rear ended by another vehicle and when he got out of his car to check the damage the men assaulted him, according to police.

Police say the officer then fired his gun nine times at the suspects. One person was shot in the torso and injured. The officer suffered head, neck and knee injuries.

The four suspects have been arrested, while Aiken was treated and released from Jacobi Medical Center.
