Officials hold groundbreaking ceremony for Heritage Field
The New York Yankees and city officials broke ground today on a public park where the team's old stadium once stood.
Heritage Field will be a nearly 11-acre park that the Yankees promised to residents after parkland in the area was eliminated to make way for their new stadium.
Officials say the park will include three athletic fields, new concession stands and a commemorative program paying tribute to the legacy of the old Yankee Stadium.
The president of the Economic Development Corporation and the parks commissioner promise Heritage Field will be completed by fall 2011.
