Bronx church playing it safe as steeple stone looks loose

A sidewalk-protecting shield is going up in University Heights after a priest of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church noticed a loose stone atop the church?s steeple.

Emergency officials had roped off the block this morning to keep passing pedestrians safe.

Father Bob Terranova said he was extremely grateful that he noticed the stone before anyone was hurt.

The historic church on Fordham Road was reopened just weeks ago after a fire destroyed the interior back in March.

Services will still be held this Sunday, according to the priest.
