State Democrats may oust Sen. Espada

A political dispute could oust state Sen. Pedro Espada, Jr. (D - 33rd District) from New York?s Democratic Party.

Edgar Santana, the deputy director of the State Democratic Committee, is sending out letters to other party leaders seeking support for the move. He says that Espada has shown he is not sympathetic with the party's fundamental principles.

Espada has been accused of siphoning money from his non-profit Soundview Health Care Network and is under investigation. He was also part of a party coup that temporarily shut down work in the state?s Legislature.

Espada's office has not yet released a statement.
