NYC still considers smoking ban in parks, beaches

(AP) - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the cityis still pursuing the idea of banning smoking on beaches and inparks.

Health commissioner Thomas Farley revealed last year that parkswere the next place the city would look to extend its smoking ban.

Smoking is not allowed in city restaurants and bars.

Other cities and states have banned smoking in parks.

Bloomberg says he's waiting for a final report on the conceptfrom the health commissioner.

He has said in the past it might be a difficult policy toimpose. But aides said the city is likely to attempt it through acitywide law.

Farley said last year he thought it could be done.
