BX residents ask city to help with unsafe living conditions
Residents on Aqueduct Avenue say they are living in unsafe conditions and have called on the city for help.
Tenants and elected officials are speaking up against a local management company that has allegedly failed to maintain its buildings, leaving the structures in disrepair.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn (D - 3rd District) says the buildings' debt also poses a problem.
She says LNR, the company that controls the buildings' $35-million mortgage, is planning to transfer the debt, making the financial hole deeper. Housing advocates are now calling for a court-appointed building manager, hoping all rent will be put toward building repairs.
