Nation's biggest produce market may be moving out of BX
The nation's largest produce market may be moving out of the Bronx.
Hunts Point vendors say they will take their business elsewhere if the city's Business Integrity Commission approves a proposal to raise license fees.
Vendors say the commission has been trying to tell vendors how to run their businesses for years. The commission was created about 10 years ago to stop organized crime at the market.
The commission wants to increase every wholesaler?s current $250 license-application and background-check fee to $4,000. It also wants to raise a $20 photo ID fee to $120.
The commission's president says Bronx-based business owners can afford the increase.
