Hydrants left on for weeks causing flooding in BX

With the summer heat affecting many Bronx residents, some are turning to fire hydrants to beat the heat.

However, officials say many hydrants are left to spray for weeks at a time without anyone turning them off at night. They say it is causing issues of standing water from blocked-up catch basins making it hard for people to cross the street, catch a bus or even get into some businesses.

The city has been working over the past few weeks to clean out the catch basins and reduce the street flooding, but officials say people are continuing to open more hydrants as the heat continues.
