Chase bank helps BX students REACH for the stars

(08/11/10) THE BRONX - Chase Bank's REACH program is providing Bronx high school students with a financial incentive to do well.

The program will award anywhere from $100-$500 to students who take advanced-placement exams and score high. It requires students to give up their Saturdays to study college-level curriculum, something that will help them get into better schools and pay less to be there.

Mariano Payano, a Bronx high school student, scored so well on his AP exams that he says he was awarded $550. Now he is not only the first member of his family to go to college, but he'll be attending Columbia University, an Ivy League school, in the fall.
