Judge pushes back court date for accused traffic agent killer

A judge pushed back the court appearance today of the man accused of running over and killing a pregnant traffic agent last year.

The new court date has been set for Sept. 1 because the witnesses were not available. Walter Walker is accused of running over traffic agent Donnette Sanz, 33, who was seven months pregnant when she was struck. Sanz was crossing the street on Webster Avenue and East 188th Street.

Investigators say Walker was driving with a suspended license at the time of the crash. Sanz?s child died eight days later.

Walker claimed at the time that the van?s brakes did not work.Prosecutors may upgrade the charges from criminally negligent homicide and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle to murder.
