3-alarm fire destroys apartments, leaves 2 families homeless

Nearly 200 firefighters battled a three-alarm fire on Sheridan Avenue Friday afternoon that left two families homeless.

Officials say the fire destroyed the fifth and sixth floors of the buidling at 1504 Sheridan Ave.

Some tenants were evacuated, but no injuries have been reported.

The Red Cross says it is providing the two families with housing for now and that at least 5 apartments were affected by the fire.
