Hundreds of BX turn-of-the-century photos discovered

(08/20/10) THE BRONX - Hundreds of historical photos of the Bronx were discovered hidden away in an old filing cabinet in the Bronx borough president's office.

Ruben Diaz Jr. says he's used to seeing stacks of papers in his office, but the photos were a nice surprise. They feature images of the Bronx as it underwent major construction back in the 1900s. One image shows workers making way for the subways, another shows the old Bronx courthouse.

Workers in the borough president's office are digitizing the images so that they can be viewed online. The hard copies will go to the Bronx Historical Society.
