Families of 9/11 victims cry out for religious freedom
(08/25/10) THE BRONX - As the battle continues over plans for a mosque to be built near Ground Zero, families of 9/11 victims gathered today to urge religious freedom.
Talat Hamdani lost her 23-year-old son who was an EMT on Sept. 11. He was also a member of the NYPD cadets, but his mother says many people first believed he was a terrorist. She says he was proud to be an American and decided she needed to speak up in favor of the mosque.
Another woman at the gathering said that she is sympathetic to the pain since she lost her daughter in the attacks, but she is more concerned about the consequences for all Americans if opponents of the mosque get their way.
