Prosecution plays tapes for jury in temple plot trial
(08/30/10) THE BRONX - James Cromitie, the suspected mastermind of the alleged terror scheme to blow up two Bronx synagogues and shoot down military aircraft, sat stone-faced today as the prosecution played recorded conversations of him allegedly planning the scheme.
Cromitie had no reaction to the tapes, where officials say he discussed getting guns and killing people in the name of Allah back in Oct. 2008. He and three others allegedly intended to plant bombs at two synagogues and obtain sophisticated weaponry to fire upon military aircraft.
It came after testimony last week from Shahed Hussain, a confidential informant for the FBI, and the lead FBI agent on the case. Jury members heard how the FBI said it provided fake weaponry for the alleged scheme and detailed information on how the whole plan was concocted.
Hussain is expected to return to the stand tomorrow.
