New bridge over Bruckner Expwy. opens

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today for a new pedestrian bridge over the Bruckner Expressway.

Construction on the new bridge began in 2008 after a truck sheered off half of the old Waterbury pedestrian bridge.

Pedestrians will cut a mile out of their trip with the bridge's opening. It connects the neighborhoods of Country Club and Spencer Estates.

The repairs were made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
