DioGuardi wins GOP primary, will face Sen. Gillibrand

(AP) - Joseph DioGuardi, a former congressman from Westchester County, completed a turnaround Tuesday to wina three-way Republican primary election in a bid to unseat Sen.Kirsten Gillibrand. DioGuardi had to petition his way on to the ballot after failingto muster enough party support at the state convention. He nowfaces a Democrat with a wide lead in the polls and far morecampaign cash. DioGuardi, the father of former "American Idol" judge KaraDioGuardi, defeated David Malpass, a former Bear Stearns chiefeconomist, and Bruce Blakeman, a former Long Island lawmaker. With 87 percent of the precincts reporting, DioGuardi had 42percent of the vote, compared with 38 percent for Malpass and 20percent for Blakeman. Clickhere for the results of Primary Vote 2010
