FDNY medic team wins international award
(09/17/10) THE BRONX - A group of FDNY medics won an international competition overseas.
The three-man FDNY team got to Poland and right to work. They were in water, smoky cars and dark streets, playing out mock emergency rescues and proved they're the best rescue team in the world.
Joseph Torrez, Eddy Perez and their third partner, Joe, won a first place trophy at the European Championship in Emergency Medicine. Perez and Fortis said the extensive FDNY training put them ahead of the curve. They say they both were born, raised and now work in the Bronx.
There are a few local rescue competitions coming up, but the next international one is either going to be in Hong Kong or Turkey. The team plans on attending.
